Mystic Krewe of Music rolls through the Westbank
You could feel the energy, excitement and bass, as marching bands and dance teams strutted down Lapalco Boulevard.People filled the streets to see the Mystic Krewe of Music parade roll through Marrero.The krewe was founded back in 2023 with an emphasis on music, bringing lively tunes to unite their community. The melodies are what bring families back each year.”I love to be out here with them, the children get out of school, so it’s even more time we can to spend together, just family time all around,” said Tacquira McGee.Tacquira McGee says it’s special to celebrate carnival season in her neighborhood.“It means everything, it’s only two parades on the Westbank, so it’s good to see that they’re bringing them back to this side, so children can have something to do instead of going into the city for it,” McGee said.Krewe members say that while they have only been rolling for three years, the number of riders has nearly doubled since their first parade. They expect it to continue to grow.”We can see the growth, we can see people getting excited, we see people coming back. So I think next year we’re going to be bigger than we are this year. We’re thankful for the 400 people we have riding tonight,” said Henry Smith Jr.This Wednesday, the Krewe of Nandi parade will roll through the Westbank.
